Introduction
Lockheed Martin UK Integrated Systems & Solutions Limited has developed an integrated suite of
software to interpret and analyse message data flows within Tactical Data Links.
The suite is used as a key component in Interoperability and Network Analysis,
System Testing, and Performance Assessment. The suite runs on a standard PC
running Microsoft Windows® with Microsoft® Excel.
Using data recorded from live trials or in ground-based test
environments, messages and internal data blocks can be analysed and matched
against events in the system.
MANDRIL provides the tools to quickly determine the specific message field
values transmitted by various units in a Data Link network. Comprehensive
queries can be applied, and lists of field values produced. The tool provides
rapid visual feedback of selections. Track data can be replayed on a scenario
display and track histories plotted to build up a picture of the trial.
Automated rule checking may be performed to highlight message transmission and
reception protocol violations. Thus interoperability problems can be revealed
quickly.
MANDRIL has been used to support a number of tests and trials including major
UK/US live interoperability trials. The tool’s facilities enabled LMUK IS&S
analysts to investigate problems rapidly and find solutions and workarounds. The
tool has been used in the investigation of system problems on a number of UK and
international platforms and is fully compatible with the JTIDS Class 2 terminal,
the MIDS LVT and the UK LVT.
MANDRIL has a large and growing international user base; it is the tool of
choice for the 5-nation MIDS\LVT integration programme.
MANDRIL and the iSMART process
MANDRIL is a key component of the iSMART process and the de facto standard for
interoperability analysis. The three components of MANDRIL are integrated
together to provide a powerful suite of tools for datalink interoperability
analysis. The rich feature set allows thorough analysis of data files using
spreadsheet, graphical and rule-based approaches.
